Kergord Substation
BT Bell provided Civil and Structural design services for SSE’s Kergord Substation, a key development in strengthening the transmission network in the Shetland Islands. This 132/33kV substation forms an essential part of the region’s renewable energy infrastructure, supporting the integration of wind and other low-carbon generation into the national grid.
Our Role
Working closely with Siemens, BT Bell delivered:
- Foundation designs for AIS and GIS structures.
- Structural designs for steel framed buildings and ancillary infrastructure.
- Civil engineering designs for transformer bunds and site drainage systems.
- Technical support throughout construction to ensure designs were practical and efficient.
Project Impact
The Kergord Substation strengthens Shetland’s electricity network, enabling the reliable export of locally generated renewable energy. BT Bell’s expertise ensured that civil and structural elements were delivered robustly, efficiently, and in accordance with SSE’s high standards, helping secure a modern and resilient grid connection for the islands.
