Progress at Finstown Substation

BT Bell traveled to Orkney, Scotland, in August 2025 to view the progress being made on SSE’s Finstown Substation.

BT Bell have carried out all civil and structural design on the project, working as designers for the Siemens BAM joint venture.

It was encouraging to see the pace at which the project was progressing, in particular the GIS (Gas insulated Switchgear) building is progressing well with much of the primary steelwork now erected.  Other significant developments included the completion of foundations for several of the transformer buildings, as well as progress on a Grid Transformer Bund.
