BT Bell offer high end services for civil and structural engineering. We are consulting engineers which means that first and foremost we are designers of infrastructure. But good design engineers also administer projects from concept phase to practical completion and beyond.
Structural Engineering
BT Bell Consulting Engineers provide structural engineering design services using our wealth of experience in the design of steel, concrete, timber and masonry structures.
We look to be involved with a project from the earliest opportunity to bring our experience and innovation into the design team, with the aim of achieving the most efficient, safe and economic designs for the client.
Our staff have experience both the consulting and contracting sides of the construction industry which allows us to design structures which are as cost effective and efficient as possible, but also sympathetic to contractors preferred methods of construction.
BT Bell are fully versed in the use of the latest software for the design of structures, including Tekla Structural Designer, Tekla Portal Frame Designer and STAAD structural analysis software, and we are able to co-ordinate our designs with other parties in a multi-disciplinary environment.
Civil engineeering
BT Bell Consulting Engineers provide civil engineering design services as a core ability of our skill base. We have a passion for creating sustainable, efficient and pragmatic civil engineering designs to enhance the way the world around us functions in modern society, all while having the utmost consideration to protecting the natural environment.
We have significant experience in the design of water and wastewater infrastructure, highways design, earthworks design and ground engineering, and we aim to use our experience to create the most cost efficient and pragmatic designs from an early stage in the project to meet the clients budgets, programme and environmental constraints.
Geotechnical Engineering
BT Bell’s engineers are experienced in a broad spectrum of geotechnical services, including foundation designs, slope stability analysis, retaining wall analysis and design and ground investigations.
Our engineers are experienced not only in the geotechnical elements of these design tasks, but also in the design of the surrounding civil and structural elements allowing us to create functional and intelligent designs. We have been involved in large scale foundation schemes for major developments in the industrial and power sectors. Our expertise ranges across all typical foundation solutions such as raft, pad and piled foundations, as well as co-ordination of foundations with ground improvement solutions such as vibro stone columns.
Our designs are compliant with Eurocode 7 requirements and we are experienced in the use of software such as SLOPE and WALLAP.
Our engineers know the importance of a thorough ground investigation. We can put together Eurocode 7 compliant ground investigation to ensure that sufficient information can be gathered regarding the engineering properties of the soil, contamination, groundwater levels and risks associated with below ground activities such as mining.
Project Management
BT Bell provide full project management supervision. We have extensive expertise of the many different types of contracts used in engineering and construction and we frequently advise clients on which contract is most suitable.
As part of our key service provision we regularly provide contract administration and cost management assistance.
Investigations and Inspections
We regularly carry out structural inspections for a range of clients, including statutory inspections for two of the UK’s biggest quarrying operators. These inspections range from general condition inspections of structures, to focussed investigations into structural deterioration and failure.
Specialist Services
BT Bell have a wealth of experience in the dynamic analysis of foundations (on items such as machine foundations). This is an area where we are popular both with new and existing clients as we are one of the few engineering practices that has the knowledge, experience and software capabilities to answer problems in this line of work.
Our vast experience in the field allows clients to be safe in the knowledge that they are receiving the best results and guidance for their projects.
CDM 2015
Health and safety is a core consideration at BT Bell. Our engineers are trained to understand and comply with our obligations under CDM 2015. We are proactive in considering risk hierarchy during our design process, with the aim of eliminating risks where possible and managing any residual problems where they cannot be fully designed out.
Our scope of works typically requires us to act as a ‘designer’ under the terminology used in the CDM regulations, but we also have experience acting as principal designer.
BIM
Building information modelling (BIM) is a process for creating and managing information on a construction project across the project lifecycle. BT Bell are accredited to work in a BIM level 2 environment and are particularly experienced at collaborating with various disciplines during the design phase of projects to deliver co-ordinated design models.
Software plays a big role in both modern engineering and the implementation of Level 2 BIM. At BT Bell we have invested heavily in the latest software to aid our projects. However, whilst the latest software is incredibly effective, we also acknowledge the importance of engineering integrity and understanding in our design work when using this software. This progress towards certification proves our intent is to be at the forefront of the industry.
