Beavens
Working with a local architect we were appointed by Byker Bridge Housing Association to redevelop the Beavan’s Building which is in a prominent location on Shields Road in Byker. This social housing project was to convert the upper floors of the building, a former furniture store, into 30 flats for homeless people. Our remit included a feasibility study and structural assessment of the building which features loadbearing masonry walls, timber suspended floors spanning between steel beams and cast iron columns. We then carried out a structural design for the conversion and monitored construction during the contract period.
