BT Bell Supports Delivery of New Asphalt Coating Plant at Tarmac’s Barrasford Quarry

BT Bell Consulting Engineers is proud to have played a key role in the successful delivery of the new asphalt coating plant at Tarmac’s Barrasford Quarry in Northumberland, providing full civil and structural engineering design services for the project.

The new plant represents a significant investment in the region’s infrastructure, providing improved production capacity and efficiency while supporting local construction and maintenance projects with a sustainable supply of high-quality asphalt.

Our Role in the Project

Working closely with Tarmac and the wider project team, BT Bell was responsible for the civil and structural design of the new facility. Our scope included:

Foundation design and for the asphalt coating plant and associated infrastructure.

Civil works design, including site levels, access, and drainage.

Collaboration with specialist contractors to ensure seamless integration of the plant’s mechanical and electrical systems with the structural design.

Quarry sites present unique design and operational challenges. Our team developed engineering solutions tailored to the constraints of the Barrasford site, focusing on safety, durability, and ease of construction. Through early engagement and close collaboration with all stakeholders, we ensured that the design supported Tarmac’s operational needs while meeting all regulatory and environmental requirements.
