BT Bell Delivering Earthworks and Civil Design for New Rail Siding at West Fraser’s Inverness OSB Plant

BT Bell Consulting Engineers is delighted to be supporting the delivery of the new rail siding at West Fraser’s manufacturing facility in Inverness, providing specialist earthworks and civil engineering design services.

The investment forms a key part of West Fraser’s drive to improve sustainability and efficiency in its operations. With direct rail access now in place, the company reduces reliance on road transport, cuts carbon emissions, and strengthens supply chain resilience – delivering clear environmental and economic benefits.

Our Role in the Project

BT Bell provides the full earthworks and civil design package for the rail siding works. Our scope includes:

Development of the earthworks design, ensuring the new formation is stable, durable, and delivered to specification.
Drainage and access design, addressing both operational requirements and long-term site resilience.
Close coordination with rail specialists and contractors to ensure seamless integration of the siding into the existing plant infrastructure.

A central objective of the project is to support West Fraser’s commitment to sustainability. Our designs focus on practicality and efficiency, helping to reduce material movements, optimise land use, and deliver robust infrastructure that serves the plant for decades to come.

Supporting Regional Industry

The new rail siding enhances West Fraser’s ability to supply high-quality wood panel products to markets across the UK. BT Bell is proud to contribute to a project that strengthens the long-term future of a key regional employer while promoting more sustainable freight transport.
