The River Glen in Northumberland is a habitat for sensitive mammal and plant species. It also runs close to the electricity transmission network. We provided advice to the Electricity Alliance, our client, on the suitability of an access track subject to erosion by the River Glen. The Electricity Alliance wanted to transfer plant and equipment along the track so that they could carry out works on the electricity network. We liaised with the Local Authority and the Environment Agency and identified a soft engineering erosion control solution to stabilise the bank. This minimises ecological disturbance and includes willow spiling, coir matting, seeding and stock fencing.
