The Yorkshire Electricity office in Leeds is the primary control centre for managing the electricity network in Yorkshire. It is critical infrastructure. In 2007 the building suffered flooding which hampered the company's response to emergencies elsewhere. We provided a full review of the causes of the flooding as well as a flood risk assessment for our client, Northern Powergrid. We then went on to recommend and design flood walls around the building with flood gates and associated drainage infrastructure. This ensures operational continuity in the event of future flooding of this part of Leeds.
Just six inches of fast moving floodwater is enough to knock you off your feet and two feet of water will easily sweep a car away. Flash flooding in India resulted in scores of elephants being swept away from the Nameri game reserve.
